Back again for its fourth year in a row, Fire Lights 2024 was a success and left us all with a better sense of community and ourselves. This year’s festival proved that even Mother Nature's rain couldn't dampen the spirit and joy that the event exudes. Nestled in the scenic landscape of Sherman, New York, Fire Lights Music & Arts Festival was back at The Heron.
Fire Lights is renowned for its eclectic mix of music, art, the insanely gorgeous festival grounds, the walkability of said grounds, and it’s community vibes. Over the course of the event, attendees were treated to a rich tapestry of performances and artistic expressions that made for an unforgettable experience. Despite the intermittent rain that graced the festival this year, the resilience and enthusiasm of the festival-goers only seemed to amplify the event's unique charm.
Notable artists gracing the stage this year included the soulful and electrifying band, Sunsquabi. Their set was funky, fun, and as the skies opened up, the crowd began dancing at The Jamboree stage.
Jason Leech was a happy accident I stumbled upon. I was making my side quest from The Dragon Stage to The AV Temple and on my way I heard some cool music. And as one does on their side quest, they go where the music takes them. I was taken to The Jamboree stage and there I happened upon Jason Leech, absolutely throwing it down on an electric keyboard. One thing I love about music festivals is discovering new music and this my friends was quiet the treat!
Another highlight was the performance by the dynamic and nostalgic group, Come Back to Earth: Mac Miller Live Tribute Band, whose energetic set was another crowd favorite. The millennial in me loved hearing old songs, as I danced on a grassy hill during a beautiful sunset. This performance kept the audience's spirits high and reminded everyone why live music is such a magical experience, rain or shine.
Artists beyond the music scene also added to the festival's allure. The festival provided a wide array of vendor booths to check out, ranging from fire blown glass, to clothing, jewelry, and much more.
The art installations and interactive workshops showcased the talents of local and regional creators. From colorful murals to hands-on craft sessions, these artistic offerings created a perfect counterpoint to the musical performances, engaging attendees in a celebration of creativity. There was also an area near The AV Temple dedicated to art for purchase. I went over on the first day to check it out and saw many hand-made pieces already marked as “SOLD.” There were all types of sizes and styles to choose from and I was tempted on many occasions to splurge because it doesn’t count if you use girl math…right?
Despite the rain, the festival’s atmosphere remained buoyant. Attendees, many of whom had traveled from far and wide, embraced the weather with a spirit of camaraderie and resilience. The shared experience of dancing in the rain and the collective joy of experiencing such exceptional music and art highlighted the festival's true essence—a celebration of community and reconnecting with oneself and nature.
This year's event, with its blend of incredible performances, artistic endeavors, and the unifying power of live music, has once again proven that the festival’s magic is not confined to the weather. Fire Lights Music & Arts Festival continues to shine as a beacon of artistic expression and community spirit. It’s a celebration that endures through rain or shine, leaving lasting memories and reinforcing the joy that comes from shared experiences in the heart of nature’s embrace.
Thank you for another fulfilling weekend at The Heron. Safe travels to everyone. The Festival Babes can’t wait to see you there next year!
